Planned to start this month, a new series of Daikin webinars aim to provide information and support to customers and consultants who are looking to upgrade or renew their cooling plant for comfort and process applications. Experts will explain how Daikin’s solutions can be deployed to meet specific cooling requirements. They will also provide an overview of the latest product releases for air-cooled cooling only chillers with inverter screw compressor (EWAD/H/S-TZ D) and with scroll compressor (EWAT-B- C).
Daikin’s series of webinars will start with two webinars, available to view on request soon:
- June 21st: Hydronic systems and energy efficiency trends in comfort cooling applications
- June 28th: Process cooling: facing energy cost increase and reliability needs.
Understanding building performance
Throughout history, buildings have evolved to address changing social needs. The advent of the skyscraper 100 years ago is a striking example, with the emergence of steel framing as a new technology designed to overcome the scarcity of real estate in growing cities. Extending real estate into the third dimension enabled extraordinary growth in a contained footprint.
The building sector is now entering a new era of change, characterized by the quest for optimization across every aspect of performance from energy consumption to carbon reduction and environmental footprint. This applies especially to commercial and residential buildings, which are subject to increasingly stringent regulations, aimed at driving change imposed by a need to optimize resources including water, energy and land, as well as to assure clean air.
The building sector is responsible for approximately 40% of the energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the EU. In 2021 the EU took the decision to align the rules for the energy performance of buildings with the European Green Deal. Setting a target to decarbonize the EU’s building stock by 2050, the EU defined a roadmap with intermediate targets, starting from 2030 when “Fit for 55” targets need to be met.
While 40% of the European energy consumption is accounted for by building stock, 80% of a building’s energy consumption comes from its heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Improving the energy performance and overall carbon footprint of the HVAC systems is vital to achieve the EU Green Deal ambitions.
The need to address the energy performance of HVAC systems is equally valid for industrial buildings, with hydronic systems in extensive use as part of the manufacturing process, in sectors ranging from the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry, throughout the food and beverage sector, to data centres. Hydronic systems can provide the plants, laboratories or other facilities across all these industries with the required responsive cooling or heating for any given process or activity.
Hydronic systems are especially important in facilities where strict temperature and humidity control is required to ensure the quality of a product, and to protect personnel in facilities where certain industrial processes are performed, or to assure the reliability of mission- equipment.
For systems with a heavy energy requirement, control over operating costs is also crucial in enabling businesses to offer the best product or service, while keeping costs down to ensure financial stability. Among the challenges facing businesses today, rising energy costs are probably the most important alongside the pressure to achieve rapid decarbonization in line with climate targets to protect the planet.
Hydronic Systems: reviewing the options
When upgrading, renewing or building a new hydronic system for comfort and process cooling, it is key to be able to make informed choices on sustainability and building performance. There is a need to understand the efficiency of hydronic systems (and thereby the chillers) in terms of keeping the operating costs low, with the reassurance that the choice for a hydronic system supports the ecological transition in buildings. In the webinars, Daikin will demonstrate how Daikin’s solutions and technology ensure that its hydronic systems operate at the highest efficiency possible. In addition, the webinars address the importance of the overall system reliability during the whole life cycle of the cooling plant.
In addition, the operating conditions of a cooling plant also constitute a key parameter in equipment specification. In many cases, units designed for standard comfort conditions, operating at 35°C ambient, with evaporator leaving water temperature at 7°C (entering at 12°C) cannot operate efficiently in off-design conditions. The result is higher operating costs. Another key factor is the installation space required by units (i.e., the unit footprint). The newest Daikin air cooled units provide answers to this with an unrivalled flexibility in range of operation, within a compact space.
How to join the webinars
The webinars are free to attend. Consisting of pre-recorded videos, the easy view webinars run for approximately 20 minutes. Language specific subtitles are also available.
